Company
President/CEO Charles Cuttone is a noted expert in the sports
industry, an award winning journalist and web developer and has more than 30 years experience in sports
management, marketing and publishing.
An innovator at
melding sports and technology, he developed one of the first
computerized statistical systems in sports, for the Women's
Basketball League in 1979, and later implemented new media
technologies utilizing both voice and data for several sports
organizations.
In his current role, he oversees the business, technical and editorial operations of Sports Vue's web sites, including serving as Executive Editor of the six regional sites in the Soccer News Network.
His 2006 article, The Best Goalkeeper You've Never Heard Of, written for PhillySoccer News.com won the National Soccer Coaches Association Writing Award for Best College story.
In addition, Big Apple Soccer.com has won numerous web design and content awards, including best web site by the Long Island Press Club for 2005. In all, Big Apple Soccer has been honored three of the last four years by the Long Island Press Clubs, and in each of the last three years by the New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, including most recently finishing second in the Best web site design category.
He has
been a guest on numerous TV and radio shows and has been quoted in
such major publications as
USA
Today,
The Boston Globe, the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel,
the New York Daily News, Crain’s Business Detroit
and Advertising Age.
He has appeared as a speaker at the
Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association Convention and was the
featured speaker at The Future of Oneonta luncheon in 1995,
discussing the economic benefits of The Soccer Hall of Fame. That
speech kicked off the Hall’s campaign to build a new $6 million
facility which opened in 2000.
In 2001, he made the closing presentation
at the Sports on the Net Summit in Chicago, which also included
featured speakers from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, the PGA Tour and
CART. His presentation on Internet Success for
Emerging Sports Leagues has been the basis for Sports Vue's client
services model.
Immediately prior to joining Sports Vue,
he was involved in international soccer as an official licensee
for the 1990 World Cup, was President of a marketing company which
handled merchandising and promotions for several professional
sports teams, and was instrumental in developing new concession
items in several major sports facilities. He also lent his
expertise to the World Cup 1994 Press Office in New York City.
His lengthy sports career includes
experience in journalism, publishing, marketing, advertising, team
ownership and a tenure as commissioner of a pro football league.
Under his stewardship in 2001, the
Montgomery Wings led the All American Association (baseball) in attendance,
and were given the league's Dick King Award for Marketing and Promotional
Excellence. He previously had owned and operated franchises in minor league hockey, professional soccer and minor
league football.
During his career, he has worked with
many notable athletes, including Pele, Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos
Alberto and baseball hall of famer Dave Winfield, and more recently with Sports Vue clients such as Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, Shannon Boxx, Abby Wambach and New York Jets placekicker Mike Nugent.
On the international soccer front, he has promoted games involving top teams from the former Soviet Union, and Northern Ireland as well as "Legends" teams from Italy, Brazil and Argentina. He has been involved in over 30 major international games in public relations or in event management.
He began his
sports career in 1974 with the New York Stars of the World
Football League, and later spent five years with the Cosmos of the
North American Soccer League, where he was part of two Soccer
Bowl Championship seasons.
He was a senior executive with two
sports marketing agencies,Sportsworld Marketing and Gotham Sports Group, handling public relations, marketing,
event management and sales for a variety of clients and events,
including the USFL Championship Game, the Pro Billiards
Championships, several international soccer events, and the official newspapers for more than two dozen
pro and college sports teams. As a journalist, he has written for major
newspapers across the country, including USA Today. He has covered the Super Bowl, NBA
All-Star Game, World Series and both the men's and women's World
Cups and virtually every major sport. He has written features for
numerous magazines and game programs, including the official 1994
World Cup Program. |
